Doljatra: The festival is dedicated to Lord Krishna. On that day, an idol of Lord Krishna is taken out on a procession in a palanquin. The festival is more significant for Bengali people as it is the birthday of the great Vaishnava saint named Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
Holi: Holi is one of the most revered and celebrated festivals in the country. Known as the festival of colours, it brings a lot of positivity into the lives of the people. In addition to that, Holi brings society together and strengthens the secular fabric of the country.
Yaosang 2nd Day: Celebrated in Manipur, the festival is a unique form of Holi. Celebrated by the local Meitei people, the festival connects the past with the present. The festival of Yaosang was a harvest festival until the 15th century. However, with Hindu preachers starting to spread Vaishnavism in the state during that time, the festival was converted into a Hindu one that is dedicated to Krishna.
Martyr’s Day: The day is celebrated to remember the sacrifice of Indian revolutionaries namely Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru. The three young revolutionaries were hanged to death by the British. They continue to be a source of inspiration for the young generation.
Ram Navami: Ram Navami commemorates Lord Ram’s birth to King Dasharath and Queen Kausalya in Ayodhya during the Treta Yuga. It is a spring celebration held on the ninth day of the Chaitra month, the first month of the Hindu lunar calendar. On this day, people pay homage to Lord Ram, also known as ‘Maryada Purushottam,’ in temples and ask him to guide them.
Sarhul: An important festival in Jharkhand during spring is Sarhul. After the festival, it is believed that the earth will turn fertile and crops can be cultivated.
Mahavir Jayanti: Mahavir Jayanti marks the day when Lord Mahavir, the founder of Jainism, was born. The day holds special significance for the Jain community.
